Are you travelling through Portugal in an electric vehicle?

Portugal has a fully interoperable electric vehicle charging network, making charging simpler and more convenient for users. With a single access method (card or app), you can use all charging stations without any additional complications. Ad hoc charging is also possible by scanning a QR code available at the charging station or by using an automatic payment terminal, with your bank card.

How to charge your electric vehicle in Portugal

In Portugal, electric vehicle charging is different from other countries thanks to its interoperability model. Users can charge their vehicles at any station, regardless of the operator.

If you are a resident or plan to stay in Portugal for a long time, you can choose to sign a contract with an Electric Mobility Supplier (EMSP). Contracts offer advantages such as a reduction in the cost of charging. For more information on this option, click here.

If you only need to charge occasionally, you should know that there are several agents who offer apps so that you do it faster and in a more convenient way.

Portugal conta com mais de 5.000 postos de carregamento para veículos elétricos em território nacional e ilhas, sendo que a densidade dos postos de carregamento é maior nas áreas metropolitanas de Lisboa e Porto. Contudo, a rede foi criada para servir os utilizadores de veículos elétricos em todo o território nacional e conta com postos nas grandes cidades, assim como locais turísticos e principais autoestradas portuguesas.

Charge at your accommodation or during meals

Charging your vehicle at hotels, local accommodations and restaurants with publicly accessible charging points is just as simple as at any other station on the Mobi.E network. Use the same access methods and take advantage of the opportunity to charge overnight or while enjoying a meal. See above for how to locate charging points at these establishments.

Park with reduced rates

To encourage the use of electric vehicles, some municipalities in Portugal have reduced or free parking rates for these vehicles. Click here for more information.

Rent an electric vehicle

In Portugal, you can rent electric vehicles from several companies. In addition to more sustainable driving, you can easily charge at any public access charging point. Check with the rental company to find the most suitable model and to learn how to use the national public charging network – the Mobi.E network.
